Takes forever to produce any honey, and if I'm not mistaken, taking the honey kills the bee colony, so you need to split it before taking honey

The problem is caused by multiple empty hives targeting the same colony for installing.

Maybe if we ever require lighting, as a way of staving off cave adaption or for non-dorfs to be comfortable in your underground taverns, wax can be used for candles.
Weboh yeah. happens a lot if you have bees, but they can be kinda rare depending on the embark landscape. Crank out some hives & jugs and get that mead / honey / wax. industry up and running (with a screw press). Tip: assign one dwarf only to all beekeeping duties.
