WebFeb 11, 2004 · Re: Shortening a minn kota shaft. Raymond...easy way is to take the top apart. Draw a wiring map before you disconnect any wires. Losen the collar around the midshaft area and slid the shaft out. Cut off what ya' have to and put it back together. Shorten wiring as needed.

Disconnect all the wires in the head, cut the shaft, without cutting the wires, slip the shaft off the wires, drill another hole where you need it and put it back together. Shouldn't be very hard. Take pictures of the connections in the head before starting.
